About
Dr. Shana
So what does it take to live your best life? Have you ever asked yourself? If you could carve out the perfect life does it resemble what you currently have?
After years of feeling lost, exhausted and anxious, I wish I knew earlier that there were life coaches specifically for those in the medical world. Maybe I could have avoiding my own burnout as a pulmonologist. Now I am living my best life all while helping people just like you do the same!
To prioritize, reframe and increase your resilience
To balance your head, heart & gut
To combat burnout
Career at a glance
After playing lacrosse at Vanderbilt University, Shana attended medical school at the University of Louisville and then pediatric residency at the University of Virginia. Then she was off to Houston Texas for pediatric pulmonary fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital.
Her love of pediatrics continued, spending 3.5 years in private practice at Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia and then landed in NC where she currently calls home after serving in academia at Wake Forest Baptist.
In addition to healthcare coaching, Shana runs a family foundation, does corporate team coaching for Pohanka Automotive, and is actively involved in animal rescue and education through Best Friends Animal Society, Paws of Honor, Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love and Forsyth Humane Society. She resides in Winston-Salem with her rescues— Great Dane, Luna Belle & hound mix, Olive Oyster.
For many of us in the medical field, Covid took a piece out of us that we will never get back. We all have stories we will be telling for generations to come or even worst…
we say nothing because there just aren’t any words to explain our trauma much like the war heroes in the past.
This was just the beginning of
my demise and burnout.
If Covid wasn’t enough I also
lost my trusted companion on
the planet, my Great Dane Orie
and then a miscarriage soon after.
I was struggling to find my inner
self so I started seeing a psychologist
to try to recover from burnout. I wished that I had known then about the benefits of hiring a healthcare coach. It would have been helpful to address past trauma with a psychologist while focusing on the present and future with a coach. The process of feeling whole again and creating a satisfying career benefiting others is why I decided to become a coach myself.
Why Coach Shana?
She can partner with you to define where you are and where you want to be. What is possible in your life? Techniques used to address this include reflection and questioning assumptions, biases and expectations.
Her training includes the Healthcare Coaching Institute through Pyramid Resource Group, INC. She is actively working towards her Associate Certified Coach (ACC) Credential through the International Coaching Federation.
Her goal is to partner with healthcare providers including physicians, veterinarians, nurses and technicians to reprioritize, reframe and increase resilience to combat burnout.

Together we can make a difference!
My promise to you…

-
Great Dane of Ruff Love
Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love was born in 2009 to meet a major need in the world of rescue: the emphasis of quality of rescues instead of just quantity. We believe that our handling of each case should be top quality, even at the expense of time or money, so that in the long run we are able to make a larger dent in the quantity of dogs we successfully save. This translates into happier dogs and adopters. We have rescued over 725 dogs! We are an extension of Ruff Love Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Thomasville, NC.
-
Best Friends
We will reach no-kill in this country by 2025.
With Best Friends, you're working to save the lives of cats and dogs all across America, giving pets second chances and happy homes.
Best Friends, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, operates the nation’s largest sanctuary for homeless animals; provides adoption, spay/neuter, and educational programs.
-
Paws of Honor
The goal of Paws of Honor (POH) is to provide veterinary care and products at no charge* for retired military and law enforcement K-9’s across America that have served our country, locally or globally. Retired K-9’s deserve accessible, high quality veterinary care in return for their commitment and sacrifice for our country. The monetary burden associated with veterinary care should not fall on the shoulders of the officer/handler/owner once the K-9 has been decommissioned.
